Well it seems a long time ago now since we were nominated – for the first time – for the Taste Of Kent Awards
The category Best Dining Pub had over 80 nominations, so we were thrilled to gather our team together to tell them the news that we had made it into the top 3, in January 2014.
The Awards dinner, superb Kentish food by The Minnis, with local juices from Little Stour Orchard and wines From Biddenden Vineyards and Chapeldown vineyards, was fab. Over 280 people all joined together in celebration for everything that is great about Kent – and there is a much to be celebrated in the true Garden of England.
When our category came around we were all on the edge of our seats, and over the moon to win.
Comments from the judges meant a lot to us… “The winner is Kent to its core, local everything from cider to the cows grazing in the surrounding land, served with top end personal service by staff whose knowledge of the local area was as if they were born and raised there. Quite simply the best all round experience shouting Kent”
The FHI began on family foundations, with Mavis Burden getting things off to a flying start for Alex Burden to take over in years to come. Then we carried on the family feel and built a team to be proud of. Without “team work” we wouldn’t be where we are today – great food needs to be served by great people, in a great setting with great facilities. All of which takes hard work from all departments – and one cannot do well without the others. Just making the top 3 of the Taste of Kent awards has been a real buzz for us all, our aspirations don’t stop here and we hope this is the start of a new chapter of success for our team.
Many thanks to the sponsor of our category Opies, and sponsors of the event. Produced in Kent put on a spectacular evening, to which we were very proud to be a part.
